Learn How to Handle, Care For, and Ride Horses!

As long-time equestrians, we know how intimidating it can be to jump into horse lessons. With a vast experience in horsemanship, and an amazing horse, we offer a “small farm” alternative to those who may not feel at home in traditional lesson barns.

Our program is based on building good communication and trust with our equine partners, before even stepping in the saddle. This means that we regularly include horse care, communication exercises, and other partnership activities into our lesson plans.

Things you may learn include:

  • Proper horse care & maintenance
  • Effective communication & how it’s perceived by the equine
  • Beginner western riding techniques
  • Correct tacking & untacking methods
  • Identification & treatment of common equine ailments
  • Strength & balance-building exercises to promote stability in the saddle
  • And more!

We may be small, but our focused, one-on-one guidance can set you or your child up for a lifetime of quality horsemanship skills!

Meet Our Horse!

Chicken

Chicken is an 18 year old American Quarter Horse mare. She was rescued back in 2015 from an Amish auction and given a safe landing here at the farm.

Upon her arrival, it was obvious that she had a beautiful temperament and greatly excelled at working with kids. She seemed to really have the “want” and “desire” to help her riders succeed, and was very forgiving when faced with beginner mistakes. Extremely excited to fine tune her amazing talent, we gave her years of extensive care and training to turn her into the perfect lesson horse!

On a professional level, Chicken excels at western speed events, such as barrel racing and other contesting sports. She has also been shown in a variety of western pleasure classes, including showmanship, western horsemanship, quarter horse halter, and fitting and grooming classes. With her well-rounded skills and experience, Chicken has the versatility to enter a wide range of competitive classes.

However, back at the farm, she lives for the trails! Chicken’s favorite riding activity is plodding along in the woods, sniffing dandelions and sneaking mouthfuls of grass along the way. She has all the confidence of a bomb-proof trail horse, with enough sense to keep you on the path!
